Release from contract for a company assisting in the impeachment inquiry of the Judicial Committee of the Assembly
ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – We learn more about the Assembly Judiciary Committee’s impeachment inquiry into Governor Cuomo and the contract with Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP supporting the effort.
Thanks to a request from the Freedom of Information Act, we were able to obtain a copy of the contract. It runs until March 2022.
Republicans have worried about the length of this impeachment inquiry.
“I’m not questioning anyone, the legitimacy of anything or anyone not doing what they’re supposed to be doing, but I’m going to keep talking when we think it’s wrong in the rate it should be.” Said Republican Assembly Leader Will Barclay.
We asked the President of the Judicial Assembly, Charles Lavine, if he anticipates needing the services of the cabinet during the term of the contract ending March 16. He says “that remains to be seen”.
Lavine said, “The investigation is progressing at a wanted and deliberate speed” and that he is “very satisfied” with the work being done by the company.
In addition to the sexual harassment allegations made against the governor, the investigation also examines how the administration handled nursing home data and whether state resources were used to publish the governor’s book.
The investigation itself was announced on March 11. So far there have been two public updates and the governor has denied all allegations made against him. “I’m not naive about how investigations work, but an update, or are they breaking a coin … will they look at the harassment allegations first, then follow up on cover-ups nursing homes, or vice versa? And can we get any kind of timeline? Barclay said.
The contract also shows that the total amount paid to the company must not exceed $ 250,000.
