PDP-Laban assembly participants could be suspended or expelled – Pacquiao
MANILA, Philippines – Legitimate members of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) who will attend the party’s national assembly on Saturday, July 17, could be suspended or expelled from the party.
Senator Manny Pacquiao, chairman of PDP-Laban, issued the warning ahead of the party’s national council meeting scheduled for Friday afternoon.
According to Pacquiao, they do not recognize the National Assembly on Saturday because it was not coordinated with him as well as with members of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
When asked in an interview with DZBB whether active party members who run for the assembly will be penalized, the senator replied: “Certainly, certainly.”
“Kailangang masunod yung governs the party, the party constitution and the kailangan yung ideolohiya ng partido masunod.”
(Party rules must be followed as well as its constitution and ideology)
“Suspension or expulsion of Pwedeng sa partido… (It could be a suspension or expulsion from the party)”, he added when told about the sanctions.
Pacquiao noted his earlier decision to expel the party’s vice president, Energy chief Alfonso Cusi, and two other officials for allegedly violating the constitution and rules of the PDP-Laban.
As party chairman, Pacquiao said he asserted his power to discipline its members.
His decision to expel the three officers was also based on the NEC investigation, Pacquiao said.
No less than the party chairman, President Rodrigo Duterte will attend the National Assembly to preside over it, said the acting secretary general of the PDP-Laban, Melvin Matibag.
