Odisha Assembly Speaker calls for all-party meeting to review Covid situation
A multi-stakeholder meeting has been convened by the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly, Surjyo Narayan Patra, to consider the Covid-19 crisis in the state. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and MPs from all parties stand ready to attend the meeting.

In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases in the state, Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjyo Narayan Patra called for an all-party meeting on May 17 to review the Covid-19 situation . The virtual meeting will be attended by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and MPs from all parts of the state.
According to sources, discussions will take place on how to strengthen the state’s current fight against Covid-19, as well as future strategies to bring the pandemic under control.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will discuss and seek advice from lawmakers on how to tackle the current Covid-19 crisis in the state. Lawmakers will also provide updates on the Covid-19 situation in their constituencies and offer suggestions to curb the spread of the infection.
Covid-19 management committees at village and municipal level
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had previously written to the Chief Minister of Odisha, suggesting to create Covid-19 crisis management committees at the village and municipal district level. The committee would include members from all of Odisha’s political parties to facilitate synergistic efforts for the effective management of the pandemic.

Speaking to India Today TV, Dharmendra Pradhan said it was a good step and every politician who transcends party lines should come forward to fight this global pandemic.
“We are in this fight together and to help the people of Odisha,” Pradhan added.
The meeting of all parties will be virtual thanks to Covid-19
Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjyo Narayan Patro said the all-party meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on May 17 in the Assembly’s conference hall would be held in virtual mode.
Surjyo Narayan Patro said, “Arrangements have been made for videoconferencing for all MPs in the Assembly conference hall. In case a deputy does not attend the meeting, he / she can attend the meeting at the headquarters of their respective district or in their home constituency. “
