New York State Senate Confirms New York Power Authority Administrator

Bethaida Gonzalez, first Latina to serve on NYPA board of directors
The New York State Senate has confirmed Governor Andrew Cuomo’s appointment of Bethaida Gonzalez as a new member of the board of directors of the New York Power Authority and of the board of directors of Canal Corp. Gonzalez, a Syracuse resident, is the first Latina to serve on the NYPA board of directors.
She has been a leader in higher education administration, program development, implementation and delivery, and most recently was Vice President of Community Engagement for Syracuse University. Previously, she was Dean of SU University College from 2007 to 2015, after joining University College in 1984. She holds an MA in Public Administration from SU and BA in Political Science from Harpur College. of Arts and Sciences from Binghamton. University.
NYPA President John R. Koelmel said, “Ms. Gonzalez is a recognized leader and will be a tremendous asset to NYPA and New York State as we work together to achieve the ambitious goals of the State of clean energy. On behalf of my fellow NYPA Trustees, I am pleased to welcome him to the NYPA Board of Directors.
Gonzalez said, “I am delighted to be working alongside the NYPA Board of Directors and the leadership of the Power Authority to continue to support New York State in its transition to a clean energy economy. It is essential for New York to bounce back safely from this pandemic, and the NYPA will be a key driver in supporting businesses in the state with clean, affordable energy so they can invest and create jobs. I thank the governor for this opportunity.
She will take a seat on the NYPA Board of Directors which will be vacant in 2019. The Board of Directors now has a full seven directors.
Gonzalez was also appointed by the New York State Senate to serve on the boards of the Central New York State Park, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Commission and the New York State Housing Finance Agency.
