‘Leading from the front’: Mizoram minister deserves praise after photo of him cleaning hospital floor goes viral
A photo of a patient wiping the floor in a hospital ward has taken social media by storm, the reason being that the man in the photo is a minister from Mizoram. Saying No to Culture VIP, R Lalzirliana, State Minister of Energy and Electricity, receives applause for leading by example.
Lalzirliana, dressed in a hospital gown, was seen cleaning floors with a mop at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) hospital, where he is currently being admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week .
According to East Mojo, the minister, his wife and their son were initially isolated at home. However, on May 12, they were transferred to the state’s only dedicated COVID-19 hospital when Lalzirliana showed a sudden drop in oxygen levels.
The photo of him taken on Friday quickly went viral online. 71-year-old Front National Mizo (MNF) leader said his intention was not to embarrass hospital staff.
He told local media he called a sweeper to clean the room because it was “messy.” As the sweeper could not answer his call, he decided to do it himself.
“Sweeping, cleaning floors or doing housework are not new jobs for me. I used to do it at home and elsewhere when it was necessary to do it, ”the minister said, adding that he did not stand above others because he was a minister.
“My goal in cleaning the floors was not to embarrass nurses or doctors, but I want to educate and lead others by setting an example,” he told the new PTI agency.
Assuring everyone that he was not getting better after a two-day stay in a mini intensive care unit, he added that he did not like special or VIP treatment as a minister. “We’re fine here. The medical staff and nurses take good care of us, ”he said.
Internet users congratulated him, hoping that others can also be inspired by him and embody what public services really mean. However, many noted that his actions were not so surprising that in the past many politicians in the state went viral for doing such good deeds.
Best of all, he doesn’t know that someone clicks on his photo. A sign of a good leader. God bless him.

Very impressive. Actions speak louder than words. I hope the others are also motivated. https://t.co/Fm3XkXG4rM

With the assumption that it is not for politics, such humility is needed from our current ruling political class! https://t.co/pRlt4vM7xX

He is R Lalzirliana, the energy minister of #Mizoram, Who has been seen cleaning the floor in the Covid neighborhood where he is recovering after testing positive.
Can we expect such a thing from leaders in other parts of India?

However, this isn’t the first time he’s created an online buzz for the cleanup. The minister had once cleaned and wiped the floor of the Mizoram House in Delhi during his visit to the capital in the past.
