IIC Appoints Two New Life Trustees To Its Board Of Directors | Latest India News
The India International Center (IIC) this week appointed two new Life Trustees, Meenakshi Gopinath and Shailesh Nayak, to its Board of Trustees.
This was made necessary after the death of former Attorney General Soli J Sorabjee and the resignation of (retired) Judge BN Srikrishna from the board.
A prominent educator, Gopinath has held various positions during his decades-long career, the IIC said in a statement on Monday. She is the founder and director of WISCOMP (Women in Security, Conflict Management and Peace) which seeks to promote the leadership of South Asian women in the areas of peace, security and regional cooperation.
In addition to being a member of the University Grants Commission, she is also Chair of the Board of Governors of the Center for Policy Research (CPR) and Principal Emeritus of Lady Shri Ram College where she was Principal for 26 years.
Gopinath was the first woman to be appointed to India’s National Security Advisory Council (NSAB) and was also a Padma Shri recipient for her work on education and women’s empowerment.
Nayak, who was also named this week, specializes in the field of Earth System Science and Sustainability. He is currently Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) in Bengaluru and Chancellor of the TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERSAS). He also worked with the ISRO Space Application Center in various capacities between 1978 and 2006.
“Nayak has made unprecedented and substantial contributions to the application of geophysical methods for the benefit of society. Its R&D projects and programs have focused on the results of multidisciplinary research towards sustainable development, and on the conceptualization and development of a policy framework for a “blue economy”, “the ICC said in its statement on Monday. .
