Former TMC Minister Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, who joined BJP ahead of assembly elections, arrested on corruption charges

Former TMC MP from Bishnupur was arrested following an investigation into alleged embezzlement of money linked to online tenders and other charges while he was chairman of the body local civic in 2020, an official said.

Bankura: Former West Bengal Minister Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, who joined the BJP ahead of this year’s parliamentary elections in the state, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly being involved in financial irregularities of nearly Rs 10 crore, said an officer.
Former congressman Trinamool from Bishnupur was apprehended following an investigation into allegations of embezzlement linked to online tenders and other charges when he was chairman of the local civic body in 2020, the policeman said.
“An investigation was conducted by SDPO, Bishnupur into allegations of financial irregularities of Rs 9.91 crore. Mukherjee was arrested after failing to give satisfactory answers to questions,” Bankura SP Dhritiman Sarkar said. PTI.
The chairman of the BJP organizational district in Bishnupur, Sujit Agasthi, claimed that Mukherjee joined the saffron party before the state assembly elections, but was not actively involved.
“The allegations against him date back to when he was in Congress in Trinamool. Has the government woken up now? asked the head of the BJP.
