Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Kelly Fishler is running for the second assembly district that appears on the ballot in the October local election.
“I really love Juneau and run because Juneau is so dear to families and I really want to help make our community more affordable and sustainable and attractive to people and businesses …”
Fishler comes up against incumbent Michelle Bonnet Hale. She was asked on Action Line about the challenge of trying to knock down an incumbent.
“I think Michelle is an absolutely lovely person. Before Covid, when I attended Assembly meetings, I always loved talking with her and with a few of the others after the meeting was over.” Although she thinks Bonnet Hale did a great job on the assembly, Fishler said she had new ideas and new perspectives.
Fishler is a mother of two, a five-year-old girl and a nearly two-year-old boy.
Her husband Matt is a member of the Coast Guard.
Fishler served in the US Navy for nearly six years and in the Alaska Air National Guard for five years. She graduated from the Alaska Military Youth Academy.
She lived in Anchorage, Valdez and Barrow as a child.
Fishler is working to complete his bachelor’s degree in public administration at the University of Southeast Alaska and will pursue a master’s degree in public policy next year.
