MURFRESBORO, TN – Imagine logging into your bank account, only to find that someone has stolen all of your hard-earned dollars. This is exactly what happened to a woman in Murfreesboro earlier this month. The resident was the victim of a theft which emptied her bank account and her savings account.
A police report shows that more than $2,200 was withdrawn from his checking account and savings account. In addition, his $1,000 line of credit had been used, which was linked to his bank account. It emerged that the subject who took his money did so through fraudulent transactions through Caesar’s Sports Play+. The police officer who worked with the victim to file the report wrote: “I searched the internet to see what Caesar’s Sports Play+ was – and it appeared to be a form of online payment related to gambling at Caesar’s Palace Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.”
While the victim doesn’t know who used her account, she said she recently made a purchase at a gas station on South Church Street in Murfreesboro. As a precaution, the policeman went to the gas station to check for possible skimmers at the gas pumps. Criminals have long been known to install external skimmers on the credit card reader of gas pumps. Skimmers scan credit cards as they are swiped for payment, stealing customers’ credit card information. Fortunately, no skimmer was found at the gas pumps. The case remains open and is under investigation.
